I’m 40 episodes into this podcast over the course of about 16 months, and I’m still learning a lot about lifestyle medicine and about podcasting in general. One of the things that I’ve come to realize is I feel that all of my podcasts are ‘good’ that, if someone listens, they can come away from a particular episode saying “I learned a few things” or “That was beneficial”. But sometimes, there are episodes where I listen to them in post production and I go “That was great”!! It just flows, this is one of those episodes!

Dr. Steve Lome is a cardiologist in Chigaco, Illinois who practices within the Rush University medical system, the same as Dr. Kim Williams who was on Episode 13.

This episode is particularly powerful because Steve’s story encompasses the professional and personal. If you’re interested, Forks Over Knives did a piece on him and his story that I will include in the show notes. Here is is--->

He’s able to connect with people who have struggled with their weight or their health, because he struggled with his weight and health. He is also able to connect with medical professionals who are struggling with treating their patients, struggling with reversing their patients’ diseases because he too struggled with addressing the root cause of why his patients were so sick and why his treatments didn’t really seem to do a whole lot.

Steve’s funny, well spoken, he gets it! He gets how powerful this message is. Even though he’s an MD, he doesn’t take himself too seriously, he’s able to joke around. And I feel that this along with his epiphany of plant-based nutrition and lifestyle medicine, brought about by watching the move Forks Over Knives, enables him to connect with his patients and other medical professionals on a unique level.
